EVERTON’S LOSS
Athletic News - Monday 01 July 1929
The Everton F.C., has suffered a serious loss toss by the death of their assistant trainer, Bertram Smith, who, when returning from his home at Prestatyn, ran into a telegram pole and was found unconscious, with his motor-cycle by his side.  Smith went to Everton from the Nelson club four seasons ago when the directors reorganized their staff.

English clubs have not got all they want from Dundee apparently. An interested spectator at Dens Park was an official from Everton. His objective is a half-back. Wonder if Jock Thomson caught his eye

HARDY TRANSFERRED

International Goalkeeper Joins Bury.
Everton yesterday transferred Harry Hardy, their reserve goalkeeper, to Bury. Hardy made his name with Stockport County, and Everton paid a substantial fee for his transfer. While with Stockport Hardy player for England against Belgium and took part in the Football Association tour in Australia. He has played for the English League against the Irish and Scottish Leagues.

Everton yesterday transferred Hardy, a goalkeeper who has been with them for several seasons to Bury.  He formerly played with Stockport County and kept goal for England against Belgium and Austria, and for the Football League against Irish and Scottish leagues.

Harry Hardy, the Everton goalkeeper, has been transferred to Bury. Hardy joined Everton four years ago, but has not been regular member of the senior side. A native of Stockport. Hardy the possessor of three international caps against foreign and Colonial sides.

Tranmere Rovers announce three important signing today.  First of all comes Sam Meston, well-known during the last two season as a member of the Everton club.  Meston has played a number of times with the first team of Everton, and is twenty-five years age, stands 5ft 8ins, and weighs 11st 2lbs.

PRESCOT CABLES SIGNING

Johnny Miller, the former Liverpool forward, has signed on for Prescot Cables.  Now we know where he is.  It was Johnny about whom all the confusion arose in after years when in May, 1919, he was loaned by Liverpool to Everton to play against Glasgow Rangers.  Johnny, Jimmy, and Tommy Miller were all “going” at that time, on one side or other of the park. 

CREWE SIGN A WRECHAM PLAYER

Crewe Alexandra have signed Eric McGovern an outside right who was last season with Wrexham.  He is only 18 ½ years of age, and was given a trial with Everton while still at King’s School, Chester.  He later assisted the Chester club. 

FANCIED FOR MR. McINTOSH

Tom McIntosh up from Everton was in his native North not so long ago.  Big Tom has still a hankering after Duncan Hutchinson, the Dundee United centre-forward, which, despite Dixie Dean, is not surprising.
